Zencoder Enables Preferred CLI Agents on Its Platform
Zencoder, previously known for its AI coding agent, has announced a significant shift in its operations. The company, led by CEO Andrew Filev, is now enabling developers to use their preferred CLI agents on its platform through integrations with popular IDEs like VS Code and JetBrains. The new platform is available today and supports tools like OpenAI's Codex, Anthropic's Claude Code, and Google's Gemini CLI.
The change comes as Zencoder aims to better serve the enterprise market and compete with other AI coding tools. The new platform, built on a JSON-RPC architecture, can support multiple CLI tools, each with its own niche, and can handle new tools as they emerge.
Andrew Filev, Zencoder's CEO, believes this shift will allow the team to focus on other areas in the development stack. These include testing, reviews, and enforcing codebase consistency, as well as multi-repository intelligence for large monorepos. The company will also offer additional analytics features to help organizations understand AI tool usage and measure ROI.
The platform's integration with popular IDEs means developers can now use their preferred IDE with built-in features like debugging and refactoring. This change was welcomed by Filev, who stated that it will enable the team to focus on other areas while developers can continue to use their preferred tools.
Zencoder's new platform is available today, and users with existing subscriptions to supported CLI tools can start using it with just a few clicks. The company, which developed the AI agent tool 'Gemini' (now known as Google's Gemini CLI), believes this change will better serve the enterprise market and help it compete with other AI coding tools. With this shift, Zencoder aims to provide a more comprehensive development experience for its users.
