In the rapidly evolving world of technology, Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi has entered the smart glasses market with a bang. The company's latest offering, the Xiaomi AI Glasses, boast an impressive array of features, longer battery life, and competitive pricing, making them a strong contender in the industry.
The Xiaomi AI Glasses come with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera capable of electronic image stabilization, supporting up to 45 minutes of continuous video recording and first-person video streaming or calls. The glasses are powered by Qualcomm’s AR1 chip and Hengxuan 2700 co-processor, ensuring efficient performance. They also feature five microphones, two speakers, and Xiaomi's proprietary XiaoAI voice assistant, enabling voice commands for capturing video/photos, object recognition, text translation, and QR code scanning for payments via Alipay.
One of the standout features of the Xiaomi AI Glasses is the electrochromic lenses, which can switch between transparent and shaded modes in about 0.2 seconds via touch controls. The glasses also support prescription lenses, albeit at a premium. In contrast, Ray-Ban Meta glasses stick to standard sunglass or transition lenses and lack the electrochromic lens tech.
The Xiaomi AI Glasses offer a significant improvement in battery life compared to Ray-Ban's Meta pair. With a mixed-use battery life of up to 8.6 hours, the Xiaomi glasses can handle 45 minutes of video capture, 90 minutes of Bluetooth calls, and 7 hours of music listening, with a full recharge in just 45 minutes. This is more than double the battery life of Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
Priced competitively at around 1,999 yuan (~$278 USD) for the base model, the Xiaomi AI Glasses are an attractive alternative in the market. Fancier electrochromic lens versions are available up to about $420 USD. The glasses are designed to be open-ear headphones, offering stereo sound and five built-in mics.
Designed with Asian facial features in mind, the Xiaomi AI Glasses are tailored to fit comfortably on a wider range of faces. The temple arms pivot 12° outward and tilt 5° forward, suggesting a design that caters to the Asian market. However, Xiaomi has not confirmed plans for a global launch at this time.
