Volvo's ES90 Electric Liftback Sedan Lands in Australia
Volvo's latest electric car, the ES90, has touched down in Australia. This sleek, spacious liftback sedan is set to hit the market very early in 2026, with a starting price of $88,800 plus on-roads for the entry-level Plus model. Managing Director Stephen Connor is expected to unveil the ES90 in 2026.
The ES90 is Volvo's answer to the 'boring sedan' tag, positioning itself as an 'in-betweener' with characteristics of both sedans and SUVs. It's a large five-door electric car with a sumptuous and spacious cabin, and a minimalist dash and driver display that focuses on luxury and Scandinavian design.
Powering the ES90 is a single e-motor delivering 245kW and 480Nm, with a 92kWh battery providing an impressive 650km range on the WLTP cycle. It can charge at up to 300kW and comes with a 14.5-inch infotainment system featuring built-in Google, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Boot space is generous, starting at 424L and expanding to 733L with the rear seats folded flat.
Priced competitively with the BMW i4, the ES90 is closer in size to the BMW i5. It's also eligible for the Luxury Car Tax threshold for efficient vehicles, making it FBT-exempt.
The Volvo ES90 brings a fresh, spacious, and luxurious electric car option to the Australian market. With its impressive range, fast charging capability, and competitive pricing, it's set to make a splash in the EV scene. Early 2026 will see the ES90 go on sale, with Stephen Connor expected to present it later in the year.
