US President Trump and UK's Labour leader Starmer seal alliance on Artificial Intelligence and investments, praising the strong relationship between the two nations as "indestructible".
In a significant move, US technology companies Microsoft, NVIDIA, and OpenAI have announced plans to increase their investment volumes in the UK's artificial intelligence (AI) sector. This decision comes as part of the "Technology Prosperity Deal" between President Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Microsoft is set to invest a staggering $30 billion over four years, focusing on AI infrastructure and cloud computing. The investment will include the construction of the UK's largest supercomputer. NVIDIA, on the other hand, has announced investments such as deploying 120,000 Blackwell GPUs and £500 million in the AI infrastructure company Nscale. OpenAI is establishing a UK-based platform with 8,000 GPUs for local AI model training and inference, aiming to keep data and operations within the country.
The "Technology Prosperity Deal," valued at £250 billion, is the largest of its kind in British history. During the joint appearance at Chequers, President Trump emphasised the importance of energy in driving the AI revolution, stating, "You need the energy, you have to have the energy."
Prime Minister Keir Starmer, in his speech, referred to President Trump as "my friend, our friend" and described the occasion as "a great day for the special relationship." The agreement was described as a "blueprint to win this new era together."
While in New York, Keir Starmer has been attempting to charm Wall Street tycoons into investing in Britain. However, Jim Allister KC MP has warned the Prime Minister not to let his subservience to the EU derail a vital US trade deal.
This is President Trump's second official state visit to Britain, marking the first time a US president has been accorded such an honor. Trump spoke of the "unbreakable bond" between the U.S. and the U.K., calling the ties "priceless" and a "beautiful inheritance."
In other news, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has withdrawn incorrect claims about Prime Minister Boris Johnson criticizing BBC journalists over their coverage of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Meanwhile, Keir Starmer is accused of repackaging Rishi Sunak's success as his own in New York.
With these investments, the deal is expected to significantly increase investment in Britain's AI sector by leading US technology firms, further solidifying the UK's position in the global AI race. President Trump underlined that the US is "leading China and the world by a lot" in this race. With this historic deal, the US-UK friendship is getting stronger and stronger.
