Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon Joins UN Global Compact Advisory Board

Choi Soo-yeon, the CEO of South Korea's biggest internet company, Naver, has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the UN Global Compact. This marks the first time in 17 years that a Korean has been elected to this prestigious position.

Choi, who has a background in corporate/M&A law and holds an LL.M. from Harvard Law School, rejoined Naver in 2019 to lead global business initiatives before being appointed as CEO. Her appointment to the UN Global Compact Advisory Board is a testament to her commitment to responsible business practices.

The UN Global Compact is a call to companies worldwide to align their operations and strategies with Ten Principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. The initiative acts as the UN flagship for responsible business action and challenges businesses to take concrete actions to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Lee Dong-Kurn, President of the UN Global Compact Network Korea, expressed delight at Choi's appointment, while Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, welcomed her to the Board.

Board members of the UN Global Compact are considered champions who are willing and able to advance the mission of the UN Global Compact. They act in a personal, honorary, and unpaid capacity and play an important role in shaping the strategy and policy of the initiative.

Naver has been an active participant of the UN Global Compact since 2014. As CEO, Choi Soo-yeon is driving Naver's AI-first global expansion, making her an ideal addition to the UN Global Compact Advisory Board.

Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, serves as Board Chair of the UN Global Compact. The current list of Board members can be found on the UN Global Compact website. The search results do not contain information about the last Korean person elected to the UN Global Compact Board.

The UN Global Compact Board provides ongoing strategic and policy advice for the initiative. Choi Soo-yeon's appointment is a significant step in furthering the mission of the UN Global Compact and promoting responsible business practices in South Korea and beyond.
