Nevada Gold Mines (NGM), the world's largest gold-producing complex, has taken a significant step forward in workplace safety and operational efficiency with the implementation of Komatsu's FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage System (AHS). This marks the first deployment of Komatsu’s FrontRunner AHS in the United States, setting a new standard for autonomous mining operations nationally.

The partnership between NGM, Barrick (operator of NGM), and Komatsu underscores a commitment to innovation focused on sustainability, safety, and operational excellence in mining. By automating its fleet of 300 and 230 tonne haul trucks, NGM aims to minimize employee exposure to dangerous environments, enhance control and monitoring, and improve operational efficiency.

The automation brings about key impacts on workplace safety. By automating haul truck operations, NGM minimizes employee exposure to potential hazards, ensuring a safer working environment. A customized 5G communications network, provided by Sedna and Nokia, allows for safe remote operation and real-time data exchange critical for safety.

Operational efficiency benefits are also substantial. The FrontRunner AHS delivers more predictable fleet behavior, leading to smoother operations. Improved fuel efficiency is achieved through optimized autonomous driving, and continuous operation capabilities reduce downtime.

The 5G network, provided by Sedna and Nokia, offers high-speed, low-latency connectivity for seamless system performance, real-time data exchange, and safe, remote equipment operation. Nokia, a B2B technology innovation leader, pioneering networks that sense, think, and act, is proud to be part of this groundbreaking collaboration.

Barrick Mining Corporation's president and chief executive, Mark Bristow, joined site leaders to witness a live demonstration of the FrontRunner AHS. For more information about Barrick, please contact Kathy du Plessis, Investor and Media Relations, at +44 20 7557 7738 or [email protected].
