Toyota Introduces the bZ4X Touring: A New EV Model for Active Lifestyles

Toyota has expanded its lineup of electric vehicles with the introduction of the bZ4X Touring, a wagon-esque SUV that will be available in both the USA and Europe. The bZ4X Touring is a refreshed version of the bZ4X, which is set to debut in Europe in the first half of 2026.

In the US, the facelifted bZ, now called the bZ, shares the new powertrain options with the Touring model and features interior updates, including a new centre console and instrument panel design, a 14-inch multimedia screen fitted as standard. The exterior includes a refreshed front fascia with slim LED daytime running lights integrated into Toyota's "hammerhead" front end.

The bZ4X Touring visually emphasizes a more rugged and adventurous spirit with a grained black finish for the wheel arches, black wheels, and roof rails capable of handling a 70kg roof load. The increased dimensions result in a significant increase in load compartment capacity, with a total of 600 litres.

The powertrains use Toyota's new eAxle with silicon carbide (SIC) semiconductors, providing greater efficiency, higher power output, and are lighter and more compact. The bZ4X Touring offers a choice of 57.7 and 74.7 kWh lithium-ion batteries. An 11kW on-board AC charger is included in the bZ4X Touring, an increase from the bZ4X's 7kW capacity.

A battery pre-conditioning function is included in the bZ4X Touring to optimize DC charging speeds in colder climates. The bZ4X Touring is designed to appeal to customers with active lifestyles and family adventures.

In Europe, the Toyota bZ4X Touring will be the first offered, followed by the bZ Woodland, expected to hit US dealerships around the same time. Toyota NZ remains unsure if it will offer the C-HR+ EV at this stage, but the bZ4X Touring will be available in New Zealand.

In the US, the facelifted bZ drops the black guards altogether in favor of body-colored versions, while the European bZ4X facelift switches the current car's matte black guards for gloss black examples.

Toyota has also introduced a new EV model called the C-HR BEV in the US market. The local debut for the bZ Woodland is likely in the USA sometime later in 2026.

The bZ4X Touring, with its rugged and adventurous design, is set to appeal to a new audience of active and environmentally-conscious consumers. With its increased capacity, efficient powertrains, and advanced technology, the bZ4X Touring is poised to make a significant impact in the EV market.
