Toyota Introduces Robust Electric SUV in 2026
The automotive industry is gearing up for an electrifying addition, as Toyota prepares to launch its latest battery-electric vehicle (BEV) – the bZ Woodland – in 2026. This rugged, all-electric utility vehicle is designed for light off-road adventure, boasting enhanced capability and practicality.
Key features and specifications of the bZ Woodland include:
Powertrain & Performance: The bZ Woodland employs Toyota's dual motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, producing approximately 375 horsepower (280 kW) with instant torque to all four wheels, tailored for off-road and outdoor utility.
Battery & Range: Equipped with a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the bZ Woodland offers an estimated range of around 250 to 260 miles on a full charge, depending on terrain and driving habits.
Off-road Capability: The bZ Woodland features a suspension system with tuned coil springs and shock absorbers designed for light off-road use. It boasts 8.3 inches (210 mm) of ground clearance and includes driving modes optimized for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud, plus hill descent control. It is rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds (1,590 kg).
Dimensions & Cargo: Compared to the standard bZ4X, the bZ Woodland is 140 mm (5.5 in) longer and 20 mm (0.79 in) taller to provide additional cargo space. It comes with standard roof rails for utility.
Interior & Technology: The vehicle’s cabin features increased refinement with higher-quality materials, soft-touch surfaces, available quilted leather upholstery, and a massive 12.3-inch to 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual 15W wireless smartphone chargers in front, and fast USB-C chargers for rear passengers.
Charging & Other Tech: The bZ Woodland supports the North American Charging System (NACS) with Plug & Charge capability, a dual-voltage (120/240 V) home charging cable, and CCS adapter for DC fast charging up to 150 kW. This enables about a 10% to 80% recharge in roughly 30 minutes. The onboard charger is rated at 11 kW, improving Level 2 home charging times.
Safe Exit Alert is a standard feature on the bZ Woodland, designed to detect vehicles or cyclists approaching from the rear and provide visual and audible alerts to prevent potential collisions when occupants are exiting the vehicle.
The bZ Woodland shares the 14-inch (36-cm) center multimedia touchscreen with its BEV stablemates. It sports gray body cladding, black overfenders, and unique 18-inch wheels. Notably, the bZ Woodland and the Subaru Trailseeker are mechanical twins, both built on the e-TNGA platform co-developed by Toyota and Subaru.
With the bZ Woodland, Toyota aims to more seriously compete with Tesla, Hyundai, and other BEV-sector heavy hitters, although the automaker remains a steadfast believer in hybrids vs. pure electrics. The bZ Woodland will be available in the U.S. next year, along with Toyota's other recently announced BEV, the small C-HR CUV. The bZ Woodland is approximately 190 inches (4,826 mm) long, making it slightly taller than the standard bZ due to increased ground clearance and roof rails. It has an estimated range of 260 miles (418 km) in ideal conditions.
