TotalEnergies' Kyon Energy Invests €100M in Germany's Largest Battery Storage Project

Kyon Energy, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, is investing nearly 100 million euros in the Alfeld battery storage project. Upon completion in August 2026, it will be Germany's largest such facility, located in Alfeld, Landkreis Hildesheim.

The Alfeld battery storage facility is designed to provide crucial system services, including primary balancing power. It will boast a power capacity of 137.5 MW and an energy capacity of 282 MWh. The project's location was chosen for its robust network infrastructure and abundance of renewable energy sources in the region.

Kyon Energy expects to generate revenues through spot market optimisation and avoiding network charges. The project includes a 110/20 kV transformer station with 2 transformers and a medium-voltage transformer 0.69/20 kV.

The Alfeld battery storage facility, once completed, will significantly bolster Germany's energy storage capabilities. Its large capacity and strategic location will help stabilise the grid and support the integration of renewable energy sources.
