Kaufland Introduces Modern News Machines Across Germany

Kaufland, a leading German retailer, has taken a significant step towards modernising its deposit return systems by introducing the TOMRA R2 news machines at five new locations across the country.

The new news machines, specifically the Crystal version of the Tomra R2, have been tested and proven effective at Steinheim, Baden-Württemberg since last spring. These machines will now be permanently stationed at this location.

The TOMRA R2, a comprehensive solution for Germany, is designed to meet all trader requirements and market conditions. It features a Multi-Feed system that optimises news returns, making them faster, more convenient, and more attractive for customers.

With the Multi-Feed system, customers can throw in all their empty bottles at once instead of placing them individually as with traditional machines. This not only speeds up the process but also makes it more user-friendly.

The new news machines can now accept glass bottles in addition to PET bottles and cans. An intuitive, illuminated touchscreen guides customers through the process of using these modern machines.

The news machines can be found at Dortmund's Bornstraße, Schwieberdinger Straße in Ludwigsburg, Schönauer Straße in Worms, Landsberger Chaussee in Ahrensfelde, and Kaufland branch in Leipzig (Kiewer Straße) respectively. The news machine in Ahrensfelde, Leipzig (Kiewer Straße) will be operational from mid-May.

Florian Hermanski, responsible for deposit return systems at Kaufland Germany, states that the new news machine is ideal for customers with larger quantities of empty bottles. He further adds that Kaufland's commitment to modern, customer-friendly deposit returns with the use of the TOMRA R2 demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability.

Thomas Løstegård, CEO of TOMRA Systems GmbH, commends Kaufland for setting another example of innovation and sustainability with the TOMRA R2. He notes that leading companies in Germany, including major retailers like REWE Group and Edeka, are already using Tomra's modern multi-feed reverse vending machines.
