Thais call for transparency as AI usage increases – findings from PRCA survey

In the heart of Southeast Asia, Thailand is harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive economic and social growth, with a substantial USD 15.4 billion investment backing this digital revolution. However, the Thai public is demanding transparency, safeguards against misuse, ethical standards, and education to ensure that AI benefits are realized without compromising trust or social equity.

Recent findings from the PRCA Thailand Conference and the whitepaper "The Impact of AI on Thai Society" highlight a strong public demand for transparency. About 92% of Thais want brands and institutions to openly disclose when AI is used, with trust notably increasing among Gen Z (37%) and young families (31%) when AI usage is transparent.

Misuse of AI is the biggest concern for 40% of Thais, followed by issues related to misinformation, deepfakes, privacy, and ethics. Caution is especially strong among Gen X and rural populations. To address these concerns, there are strong calls for government-led safeguards to ensure AI is used ethically and safely.

While 55% agree that AI improves efficiency, most Thais believe AI should augment rather than replace human creativity and work. There is a demand for practical AI education both online and offline, with the government responding by aiming to promote AI literacy for 10 million citizens, enforce AI laws, and train 90,000 AI professionals as part of a national AI strategy.

The public expectations emphasize ethical use (52%) and education (50%) as foundational for responsible AI governance. Older, urban, and educated groups voice particularly strong concerns about misuse, highlighting the need for proactive policy measures to align AI’s growth with societal values and human dignity.
