Tesla Unveils Long-Range Model Y L and Model 3+ Variants in China

In an exciting development, Tesla has officially announced the launch of two new variants in China – the Model Y L and the Model 3+. These vehicles are set to offer extended ranges and are part of Tesla's ongoing efforts to enhance its offerings in the Chinese market.

The Model Y L, unveiled last month, is now Tesla's longest-range SUV in China. Equipped with an 82 kWh LG NMC battery, this six-seat SUV boasts a CLTC-rated range of 751 km. The Model Y L is larger than the standard Model Y, featuring a longer wheelbase and increased cabin space for enhanced passenger comfort.

On the other hand, the Model 3+ is a rear-wheel-drive sedan offering a long-range variant. Powered by a 225 kW motor (an upgrade from the previous 194 kW), this variant comes with a 78-78.4 kWh LG NMC battery, delivering up to 830 km or 800 km CLTC-rated range, depending on the variant.

Both vehicles are part of the vehicles eligible for purchase tax exemptions in China, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The data release was part of MIIT's latest vehicle batch eligible for purchase tax exemptions, indicating that Tesla is focusing on improving efficiency in its China lineup.

The Model Y L has a curb weight of 2,088 kg, suggesting a larger body, while the Model 3+ has a curb weight of 1,760 kg. The Model Y L's battery pack energy density is listed at 176 Wh/kg, with the pack weighing 465 kg. The Model 3+, if not the highest-range EV available in China, would be the highest-range Tesla ever offered in China.

The new Model Y L and Model 3+ variants are expected to have extended ranges, as suggested by the data released by MIIT. This move suggests that Tesla is aiming to compete with other automakers in terms of efficiency and range in the Chinese market.

Real-world testing for the Model Y L is already underway, with the vehicle spotted in the wild. The release of these specifications and range figures for the Model Y L and Model 3+ variants comes shortly after their initial unveiling, indicating Tesla's commitment to transparency and customer engagement.

The Model 3+, also debuted last month, achieves up to 830 km of CLTC-rated range using a 78.4 kWh LG-supplied NMC battery and a single rear motor rated at 225 kW. These new variants are expected to be launched around September 2025.
