Tesla Canada Introduces New Long-Range RWD Model 3 & Y
Tesla Canada has introduced new long-range rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants of the Model 3 and Model Y. The changes, discovered through software analysis by hacker 'Green', bring enhanced performance and range to both models.
The Model Y Long Range RWD boasts an impressive range of 525km, a top speed of 217km/h, and accelerates from 0-100kph in just 6.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the Model 3 Long Range RWD offers a 0-100kph time of 5.2 seconds and an estimated range of 584km. Both models now qualify for a $5,000 federal iZEV rebate.
The introduction of these new variants coincides with Tesla's pivot to mitigate the impact of new tariffs on EVs made in China. Giga Shanghai exports are currently not returning to Canada and the US. The Model 3 and Model Y RWD, previously equipped with LFP batteries, are no longer available, marking the end of this battery type in these models.
Pricing for the new variants sees a $4,000 increase for the Model 3 Long Range RWD, starting at $54,990 CAD, and a $59,990 CAD starting price for the Model Y Long Range RWD.
Tesla's strategic shift in Canada brings enhanced performance and range to the Model 3 and Model Y, with the new long-range RWD variants. Despite the price increase, these models remain competitive in the electric vehicle news market, benefiting from federal rebates and offering improved driving experiences.
