Tech giant Meta unveils smart eyewear equipped with an integrated screen
Apple is set to join the tech race with two exciting new products scheduled for release in the coming years. According to a report by Bloomberg, the tech giant is planning to launch a "smart" display-equipped speaker by 2026, and a desktop robot by 2027.
Meanwhile, Meta (formerly Facebook) and EssilorLuxottica, the producer of Ray-Ban glasses, have teamed up to bring the Ray-Ban Display and the Neural Band to the market. These innovative products will be available in the USA on September 30, 2022, for $799.
The Ray-Ban Display features integrated electronics, making them bulkier than traditional glasses. However, the addition of a color display in the right lens enables interaction with Meta AI, camera and music control, and messaging. The glasses boast a battery life of up to six hours, extendable to 30 hours with a charging case.
The Neural Band bracelet, on the other hand, reads hand muscle signals for gesture-based interface control. It lasts up to 18 hours on a single charge. Both the Ray-Ban Display and the Neural Band will be initially available in select US stores, with plans to expand to the UK, Canada, France, and Italy by 2026.
Apple's desktop robot, resembling an iPad on a motorized leg, is intended to be a multi-purpose device for work, communication, and entertainment. It will act as a virtual companion, offering a visual version of the Siri voice assistant. The robot is scheduled for release in 2027.
