Tame Impala's Kevin Parker Launches Orchid, a Unique Digital Polysynth

Orchid, a compact digital polysynth designed by Kevin Parker of Tame Impala fame, is set for worldwide release on Friday 10 October. The instrument, developed by Parker's company Telepathic Instruments, is designed to inspire musical experimentation and creativity.

Orchid was initially envisioned by Parker over a decade ago and brought to life by designer Ignacio Germade. The synth features three distinct engines: virtual analogue subtractive, FM synth, and vintage reed piano emulation. Its standout feature is a unique chord generation system, utilising a matrix of chord types and modifying keys, along with a single-octave keyboard.

The latest update includes twenty pre-programmed drum loops, perfect for chord and melody writing. To complement Orchid, Telepathic Instruments has released Pistil, a companion plugin enabling deep sound editing and MIDI control. Parker, who also goes by Tame Impala, founded Telepathic Instruments with friends, aiming to create an 'idea machine' with Orchid.

Orchid will be officially released worldwide on 10 October at 10am local time in CET and PST time zones. Priced at $649 including shipping, this limited-quantity synth is set to inspire musicians with its unique chord generation system and diverse sound capabilities.
