Subaru broadens its electric vehicle collection with the introduction of a fresh compact SUV model.

The 2026 Subaru Uncharted, a compact, 4-door, crossover-styled battery-electric vehicle, is set to make waves in the electric vehicle (EV) market. This new model, developed jointly with Toyota Motor Corp., boasts an estimated range of 290 miles to over 300 miles depending on the trim, and offers competitive power and charging capabilities.

The base Premium front-wheel-drive (FWD) trim of the Uncharted exceeds 300 miles of range, while the Sport and GT all-wheel-drive (AWD) trims provide up to 290 miles. The Premium FWD model delivers 221 hp, while the dual-motor AWD Sport and GT trims produce up to 338 hp, enabling 0-60 mph acceleration in under 5 seconds.

Charging specs include a NACS port supporting up to 150 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in roughly 30 minutes. An 11-kW onboard charger enables Level 1 or 2 AC charging at home.

The Uncharted's range, power, and charging features are well-positioned within the competitive EV market. Its more than 300 miles of range for the base FWD variant stands out as especially strong among similarly sized BEVs, while its dual-motor AWD models provide comparable or better power and quickness than rivals like the Hyundai Kona EV and Kia Niro EV.

The fast charging capacity (150 kW) and compatibility with Tesla Supercharger stations via the NACS port also align well with current industry standards for convenient charging access and speed.

The 2026 Subaru Uncharted's exterior design reveals no traditional grille above the front bumper and features a new "lighting signature" with distinctive headlamps and an extra-large, illuminated Subaru logo. Rear door handles are high on the vehicle and backed up almost to the C-pillars, creating a large, smooth expanse of sheetmetal on the sides, almost like a coupe.

The Uncharted is positioned as the "newest, smallest" BEV in Subaru's lineup, and it was developed jointly with the Toyota C-HR, which also goes on sale in 2026. The all-new Subaru Trailseeker, set to be the second BEV in Subaru's U.S. lineup, will be developed jointly with the all-new Toyota bZ Woodland crossover.

Inside, the Uncharted offers a standard, 14-inch touchscreen for infotainment, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Dual wireless phone chargers are a prominent part of the center console, and rear-seat passengers get dual USB-C chargers.

In 2024, Subaru sold 12,447 Solterras in the U.S., a 40.3% increase from 2023's 8,872, but still far from the top-selling BEV in the U.S. that year, the Tesla Model Y. The Toyota bZ4X, with which the Solterra was jointly developed, will receive a significant mid-product-cycle update in the 2026 model year and become the Toyota bZ.
