Spyker's Exciting 2012: New Engine, Peking-Paris D8 Launch
Spyker is revving up for an exciting year with the upcoming launch of the production-ready Spyker Peking-Paris D8 and a significant engine upgrade. The Dutch automaker has secured an extension of its engine agreement with Audi, ensuring a smooth transition to more powerful units.
The ZR1 V8 engine, originally planned for the Spyker Aileron Spyder and Coupe, will now first debut in the Aileron Spyder. A test model is currently being used to shake down the engine, with more powerful versions planned for both the Spyder and Coupe. In 2012, the Audi V8 engine will be replaced by the ZR1 V8 in the C8 Aileron Spyder. This shift is overseen by Victor Muller, the then CEO of Spyker Cars, who was instrumental in introducing new technologies and designs.
The ZR1 V8 engine is linked to the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and is based on the GM LS9 V8 triple-turbo V8 engine. While it was initially intended for the Spyker Aileron, a 4.2-liter V8 engine from Audi production was used instead. Spyker's history of co-production and engine imports involves collaborations with various automakers to integrate engines and technologies.
Spyker's favourite investor, Vladimir Antonov, is no longer persona non grata, signaling potential stability and support for the company's ambitious plans. The upcoming launch of the Spyker Peking-Paris D8 and the introduction of the ZR1 V8 engine promise an exciting future for Spyker enthusiasts.
