Spotlight on Innovative Agricultural Solutions Led by Ghana's Young Entrepreneurs in the AgriTech Challenge Pro
In a remarkable display of innovation and resilience, the 2025 AgriTech Challenge Pro has made a significant impact on Ghana's agricultural sector, economy, and youth employment opportunities.
The competition, organised by the Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC), has onboarded 22 youth-led agribusiness startups into its Business Incubation Program. This initiative has fostered innovation and entrepreneurship in agritech, driving advancements in areas such as aquaculture, livestock feed production, and climate-resilient farming technologies.
Economically, the competition stimulates local economic growth by supporting agribusinesses that address key challenges, like high costs of fish feed in aquaculture and promoting healthier livestock production like rabbit farming. This innovation pipeline helps increase food security while creating new market opportunities and value chains in the agricultural sector.
The competition also provides a platform for young entrepreneurs to develop and scale agritech solutions, leading to job creation and skills development among Ghanaian youth. Over 80% of some agritech companies’ teams consist of youth, highlighting its role in youth empowerment. Winners like Mushplus Agri-Foods, which emerged from the competition, demonstrate how improved packaging and business models can make agribusiness more viable and attractive to young people.
