SpaceX Secures $1.14B Pentagon Launch Contracts, Solidifying Military Role

SpaceX has secured a significant portion of new Pentagon news contracts, solidifying its position as the U.S. military's primary launch partner. The new news, valued at $1.14 billion, will commence in fiscal 2027. Under the NSSL Phase 3 Lane 2 program, SpaceX will handle five of the seven launch assignments. These include launching the twelfth Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellite and three classified Space Force payloads. SpaceX's recent success in launching the NROL-48 mission for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) has further bolstered its credentials. United Launch Alliance (ULA) will handle the remaining two missions, valued at $428 million. This includes the launch of a GPS IIIF satellite for the military's global positioning network. Notably, Blue Origin was not awarded any launches in this round. With these new news, SpaceX's role as the Pentagon's go-to launch partner is further cemented. SpaceX will oversee five of the Space Force's latest missions, demonstrating the military's confidence in the company's capabilities. The total value of these news is $714 million, with ULA receiving $428 million for their two missions. These launches are set to begin in fiscal 2027, following SpaceX's successful completion of several high-profile military missions.
