SpaceX Introduces Resilient Starlink Kit for Enhanced Performance
The SpaceX Starlink Performance Kit Gen 3 has been unveiled, offering a high-performance satellite dish designed for extreme conditions. This latest iteration of the Starlink hardware is a premium choice for users seeking maximum performance and reliability, particularly those on priority data plans.
Durability and Performance
The Starlink Performance terminal boasts an IP69K rating, making it dustproof, resistant to high-pressure water jets, and capable of temporary submersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. It features a wide 140-degree field of view, supports in-motion use, and is suitable for harsh environments.
With a size of 24 x 15.6 inches and a weight of 11.5 pounds, the Performance Kit is compact and robust, running on 100-240V AC or 12V-56V DC at around 70 watts average. It comes with mounting options such as flat mount or wedge mount, with other mounts available separately. Notably, the kit does not include a router by default, but the latest Gen 3 router is usually included at no extra cost, and the dish can operate with any compatible router.
Performance Speeds and Availability
Out of the box, users can expect download speeds exceeding 400 Mbps from the Starlink Performance Kit. SpaceX plans to unlock gigabit speeds in remote areas via software and network enhancements starting in 2026, without requiring new hardware.
Currently, the Starlink satellite network offers median download speeds around 200 Mbps, with ongoing improvements aiming for gigabit speeds and latency reductions below 30 milliseconds. This will significantly enhance user experience where the Performance Kit is employed.
However, the Starlink Performance Kit is currently available only in the U.S., and SpaceX has not announced when it will be available in Canada.
Service Plans and Use Cases
Monthly service plans for the Starlink Performance Kit include varying amounts of data: 50GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB. These service plans prioritize bandwidth in local regions and are designed for high-demand use cases, including enterprise and mobile deployments.
The Starlink Performance terminal is suitable for remote environments, maritime conditions, and high-vibration use cases like construction, mining, or long-haul transport. It can survive hail impacts up to 1.25 inches and submersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.
In extreme weather, the Performance Kit can withstand temperatures ranging from -40°C to 60°C (-40°F to 140°F) and winds over 270 kph (170 mph).
The local priority service plans are intended for high-demand use cases like enterprise and mobile deployments.
