Sono Group's Solar Bus Kit Achieves Type Approval in Germany, Paving the Way for Climate-Friendly Mobility

In a significant development for sustainable mobility, Sono Group N.V., a Munich-based solar technology company, has received national road approval for its Solar Bus Kit in Germany. This makes the Solar Bus Kit the first of its kind in the country to receive Type Approval (TTG) for vehicle-integrated photovoltaics (ViPV).

The TTG is a crucial step towards expanding the Solar Bus Kit's availability internationally, as it adheres to the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) framework. This approval simplifies the approval process for customers, reducing cost and time.

The Solar Bus Kit is a retrofit solution that installs photovoltaic modules on the roofs of buses, thereby reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It helps reduce diesel consumption, lower CO2 emissions, and improve the range of buses by reducing the load on the alternator.

To achieve national road approval in Germany, Sono Group defined and implemented specific testing requirements and standardized procedures for vehicle-integrated photovoltaics. These procedures ensured compliance with German automotive safety and electrical standards, testing according to automotive protocols similar to LV123, the use of automated and precise power testing equipment, simulation of automotive operating conditions, and documentation and certification for homologation.

Extensive testing was conducted by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt, KBA) and the Technical Inspection Association (TÜV). The Solar Bus Kit's inclusion in the KBA's "green list" represents a significant step towards climate-friendly mobility.

Denis Azhar, Managing Director of Sono Group, stated that this achievement sets new standards for sustainable mobility. He further emphasized that Sono Group is on a pioneering mission to accelerate the revolution of mobility by making every vehicle solar.

This milestone underscores Sono Group's commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainable mobility. The company's disruptive solar technology is engineered to be seamlessly integrated into a variety of vehicle architectures, paving the way for climate-friendly mobility. This achievement is a significant step towards Sono Group's vision of making every vehicle solar.

  1. With this Type Approval, Sono Group's Solar Bus Kit takes a step forward in the realm of environmental-science and technology, potentially impacting the financial aspects of bus companies by reducing fuel consumption and lowering CO2 emissions, which is beneficial for business.
  2. As Sono Group continues to innovate and push the boundaries of sustainable mobility through their disruptive solar technology, their efforts in the science and technology sectors could have substantial implications for the global business and finance landscape, fostering a more eco-friendly economy.
