SCN Hall of Fame Inductee for 2025: Gordon Dutch
A Three-Decade-Spanning Pro AV Journey: From Car Stereos to Cutting-Edge Consultancy
Gordon Dutch's thirty-year Pro AV journey began in the realms of high-end car audio and home cinema installation. Today, he stands at the helm of Re-Sauce, a business consultancy he co-founded and serves as CEO. His Pro AV adventure kicked off back in 1992, with the establishment of BBG, an AV distribution company which he later sold to Peerless-AV in 2009, maintaining his stake as co-owner for an additional 12 years.

Dutch's Pro AV odyssey took root during his childhood years, steeped in the sounds of rock 'n' roll. This sonic backdrop not only fostered a love for music but also nurtured a keen acoustical sense that has proven invaluable in his career. Acoustics, he emphasizes, play a vital role in crafting superior AV experiences and environments.
Beyond music, sales and marketing have always been Dutch's passions. Through engaging with clients, installers, and industry peers, he's discovered that one key to success is building meaningful relationships. For him, sales are about being knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and passionate about the work you do – a sentiment echoed as this industry thrives on multiple brands collaborating on projects.
In his current role at Re-Sauce, Dutch revels in the diversity of his workload. From sales strategy and introductions, to organizing product launches and media buying campaigns, the variety keeps each workday fresh.
Having spent years identifying the 'front curve' of industry trends, Dutch is keeping a keen eye on a few emerging developments. One significant trend is the expanded adoption of hologram technology in the Pro AV sector, such as in the ABBA Voyage show in London, and Dutch expects to see more of holograms venturing into advertising realms in the forthcoming years. In his early days with Re-Sauce, he worked on a project with Hypervsn, involving 3D holographic digital signage, backed by Mark Cuban and Richard Branson.
Dutch also anticipates the emergence of a standard for Pro AV similar to that used in production broadcast, as these two realms continue to merge. "In broadcast, you’ve had a long-established open standard in 2110, which all the broadcast manufacturers use," Dutch commented. "And there’s a real push now on getting a standard for AV, too, in IPMX. I think that is something that will continue to grow."

As Dutch reflects on his legacy in the Pro AV landscape, he points to two significant achievements. During his 12-year tenure at Peerless-AV, he played a crucial role in transforming the company from a strong U.S.-based brand to a prominent global powerhouse, even winning the prestigious Queens Award for Enterprise in 2020. Additionally, he aims to make a positive impact as a mentor, helping others reach their full potential.
Outside of work, Dutch relishes quality time with his family and continues to express his musical creativity with his latest band, After Eve. If there's one thing Dutch struggles with in retirement, it's finding a balance between an active work life and play. "I've got to be honest, I'm really bad at being retired," he admitted. "I just love being active, whether work or play."
