SANS Institute Presents New Framework Aimed at Helping Companies Navigate Secure Implementation of Artificial Intelligence

The SANS Institute, a global leader in cybersecurity training and certifications, has recently released an AI security blueprint called "Own AI Securely." This blueprint aims to provide a structured, innovative model to help organizations adopt AI securely and responsibly, addressing the growing need for reliable guidance in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Rob T. Lee, Chief of Research and Chief AI Officer at the SANS Institute, stated that the blueprint gives structure to an environment that lacked clear direction and is built on field-tested insights to help security leaders act with clarity and purpose.

The blueprint is mapped to 14 industry-leading training courses and a series of GIAC certifications, ensuring a comprehensive approach to AI security. It introduces a three-track model: Protect AI, Utilize AI, and Govern AI.

The Protect AI track focuses on securing AI systems from poisoning, prompt attacks, and data leaks. The Govern AI track highlights the need for executives, managers, and boards to ensure compliance, AI fluency, and effective strategies for organizational alignment with regulations. The Utilize AI track emphasizes the use of AI in cybersecurity functions like digital forensics and red teams to accelerate detection, triage, and response.

The blueprint meets a demand from global enterprises facing complex questions about AI safety, compliance, and operational control. By 2026, global AI spending is projected to surpass USD 300 billion, underscoring the importance of securing these investments.

AI is projected to contribute up to 13.6% of the UAE's GDP by 2030, with the UAE National Strategy for AI 2031 focusing on integrating AI as a key driver of future prosperity, creating new pathways for growth, boosting efficiency, and supporting long-term sustainability. The UAE has positioned AI as a transformative force for the nation's governance, growth, societal wellbeing, and economic diversification.

Across industries, there is a growing need for reliable, outcome-focused guidance that reflects the operational, technical, and governance realities of enterprise-scale AI. The Secure AI Blueprint is designed to help organizations develop a capable, skilled AI cybersecurity workforce.

Rob T. Lee further stated that the blueprint provides structure where there has been confusion and alignment where there has been fragmentation, addressing the challenges faced by security teams in both the public and private sectors who are being asked to defend systems that evolve faster than existing playbooks can support.

In a world where AI is becoming increasingly integral to business operations, the Secure AI Blueprint offers a vital tool for organizations seeking to navigate the complexities of AI security and harness its potential responsibly.
