Samsung Unveils Mini SSD: Revolutionizing Data Transfer Speeds

Samsung has unveiled the Mini SSD, a groundbreaking storage solution that promises SSD-like speeds in a footprint similar to a microSD card. This innovation could revolutionise data transfer speeds for various devices, from smartphones to desktop PCs.

The Mini SSD, codenamed '1517', offers impressive speed test results. It can achieve sequential reads up to 3,700 MB/s and writes up to 3,400 MB/s over a PCIe 4.0 x2 interface. Despite its compact size, measuring just 15 x 17 mm, it is available in capacities up to 2TB.

The Mini SSD is not just about speed; it's also robust. It's IP68 dust and water resistant and can withstand drops of up to three meters. This durability, coupled with its compact form factor, makes it ideal for use in handheld devices like the upcoming GPD Win 5 and OneXPlayer Super X laptop. These devices can now accommodate larger batteries and better cooling systems due to the space saved by the Mini SSD.

The Mini SSD from Biwin is a significant leap in storage technology. If the performance claims hold true, it could enable faster wifi speed test results for a wide range of devices. Its durability and compact size make it an attractive option for manufacturers. However, widespread adoption depends on industry support for this proprietary format.
