Uno Minda Embraces Electrification and Digitalisation in Automotive Shift

Uno Minda, a leading automotive components supplier, is strategically positioning itself for the future by focusing on building a comprehensive electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. This move comes as the auto sector shifts towards electrification and digitalisation.

The company's current strategy involves strong execution of joint ventures (JVs), vertical integration, and expansion into technology-led segments such as EV chargers, controllers, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) modules, and high-voltage powertrain components. Uno Minda is proactively ramping up across both two-wheeler (2W) and four-wheeler (4W) EV platforms.

Key elements of Uno Minda’s strategy and product portfolio include JV-based platforms, investment in manufacturing, a diverse product portfolio, technology and innovation, and a focus on mitigating supply risks.

JV-based platforms such as Uno Minda-FRIWO and Innovance focus on EV technology like chargers, controllers, ADAS cameras, and high-voltage powertrain components. The recent acquisition of full control and intellectual property from FRIWO enhances their vertical integration and control over key EV tech.

Uno Minda is setting up new facilities, including a two-wheeler alloy wheel plant in Bawal, Haryana, and a greenfield plant for EV powertrain components such as inverters, motors, combined charging units, and e-axles.

The EV-focused product portfolio includes EV chargers, inverters, controllers, ADAS sensors/modules, alloy wheels engineered for EVs, and seating systems. The company's EV 2W kits have a higher value (~₹37,600 per vehicle) compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) 2W kits (~₹12,000), indicating a focus on premium and complex EV parts.

Uno Minda is advancing in digitalization and safety with products in sensors and ADAS. The company's aim is to aggressively expand manufacturing capacity for EV components and to position themselves as enablers of next-generation mobility through electrification, digitalization, safety, and premium automotive technologies.

The financial outlook for Uno Minda is positive, with the company projecting revenue growth at about 15% CAGR over FY25-27E, supported by rising order visibility and scaling new plants. Recent quarterly financials show a strong revenue increase (~18%) and improved net profits, driven by growth in both core and emerging product lines.

The EBITDA margin for Q1 FY26 expanded to 12.1% from 10.7% a year ago. Profit after tax attributable to shareholders for Q1 FY26 is ₹291 crore, up 46% from ₹198 crore in the same period last year. On a normalised basis, the PAT for Q1 FY26 is ₹239 crore, reflecting a 21% increase year-on-year.

Uno Minda has 76 manufacturing units and 37 R&D centers globally, with alliances with international partners in Japan, Germany, Korea, and China. The company is also diversifying its product offerings, recently launching LED Blinkers for Royal Enfield motorcycles, priced at ₹1,137.

In summary, Uno Minda’s future product portfolio centres on a full-stack EV ecosystem—covering hardware like powertrains, controllers, EV chargers, and sensor/ADAS modules—supported by joint ventures and vertical integration. The company's strategy is to aggressively expand manufacturing capacity for EV components and to position themselves as enablers of next-generation mobility through electrification, digitalization, safety, and premium automotive technologies.
