Reimagining Football's Landscape: Rematch Transforms the Game into a Utopian, Artistic, and Chaotic Animated Carnage

Rediscovering the Joy of Football with Rematch

Just when footy fans need a breath of fresh air, here comes Rematch, a game challenging the dominance of FIFA—the go-to football game for many. In an era marred by discontent over EA FC, now's the perfect time for alternative titles to rise.

Rematch distinguishes itself by transporting you onto the pitch as a single player, echoing a team sport experience or online multiplayer games like Rocket League or Overwatch. Nancy, an ardent gamer, recalls Namco's LiberoGrande from 1997—a game similar to Rematch. Or, take a look at Despelote, a comic book football game developed in Unreal Engine, for a comparison.

A Perfect Blend of Arcade Magic

Hand in hand with its exhilarating gameplay comes a captivating aesthetic that paints a more optimistic vision of both soccer and society. Discussing the game's setting and philosophy, Art Director Sabrina Tobal shares, "It's about humanity in 2065, it's about social justice, diversity, fair play, advanced technology, and a creative society."

Starting off with key words like "futuristic", "feel-good", and "optimistic", Rematch's team aimed for movement and cooperation. This translated into a painterly impressionistic art style similar to Sloclap's Sifu but with even brighter colors. For instance, the artists took a picture of a silver steel cutlery set and transformed it into bold, eye-catching hues.

Rematch Offers More Than Just Soccer

In contrast to the grim reality we face today, Rematch envisions a future where technology helps create a better world while allowing us to appreciate the earth's natural beauty. This vision is showcased through wind, solar, and tidal energy-powered stadiums.

"Imagining renewable energy in 2065 is a challenge," Sabrina admits. "Each stadium is connected to one renewable energy source, and the challenge is to make it look futuristic, credible, and operational while serving as an actual stadium."

But it's not limited solely to stadiums. Games are played within an AR 'cage', explaining why the ball doesn't go out of bounds and eliminating throw-ins and corner kicks. "Imagine if you play in these AR cages. If the game happens in England, people in Paris could see the game as if they're there, while players maintain focus," says Sabrina.

This technology also paves the way for various environments outside the confines of traditional football games. Sabrina explains, "It allows us to explore diverse landscapes like space, underwater, icebergs, or volcanoes!"
