In a significant step towards sustainability, Deutsche Post DHL Group is set to open a new parcel delivery center in Nordhausen, Thuringia, in spring 2026. This center, spanning 9,500 square meters, will process 180,000 letters and 30,000 parcels weekly.

The new delivery center will be a flagship project in Thuringia, aiming to set a sign for regional presence and climate-friendly logistics. Powered entirely by renewable energy, the facility will feature a photovoltaic system on the roof, supplying the logistics center and charging 60 electric delivery vehicles. A heat pump will take over the heating function of the building, further reducing carbon emissions.

The center will serve the areas of Nordhausen, Werther, Bleicherode, Ellrich, Sollstedt, Heringen, and Harztor. More than 120 employees from existing locations will work at the new center, creating new job opportunities in the region.

Deutsche Post and DHL have been actively pursuing sustainability initiatives, integrating renewable energy and electric vehicles into their operations. By the end of 2025, more than 280 green delivery support points are expected to be in operation throughout Germany. In 2022, the company invested 390 million euros and created 90 CO2-neutral delivery support points.

However, the current operational status of this specific facility in Nordhausen is not yet known. For up-to-date details on the project’s status and its contribution to reducing CO2 emissions in the logistics sector, we recommend consulting Deutsche Post DHL’s official press releases or sustainability reports, or regional news sources from Thuringia published in 2025.

Meanwhile, Deutsche Post is facing challenges in its postal services. The number of complaints about postal services has reached a new high, affecting the German Post particularly. Delays in letter delivery, including important government correspondence, have been reported. The company attributes these issues to staff shortages, heat, and new rules allowing longer letter delivery times.

In a separate development, the Deutsche Post branch in Sondershausen "Galerie am Schlossberg" is closing, which will affect Postbank customers in Sondershausen as they will have to drive to Nordhausen after the closure.

Despite these challenges, Deutsche Post and DHL remain committed to helping cities and communities become "greener" with their location concepts. The new delivery center in Nordhausen is a testament to this commitment, demonstrating the company's dedication to sustainable and climate-friendly logistics.

The new delivery center in Nordhausen, while facing challenges in the postal services sector, remains committed to becoming a testament of Deutsche Post and DHL's dedication to sustainable and climate-friendly logistics. Powered by renewable energy and featuring a photovoltaic system and heat pump, this environmental-science and technology-driven facility aims to set a sign for regional presence and climate-friendly logistics, ultimately contributing to the lifestyle and well-being of the community by reducing carbon emissions.
