Recap of the Year: Examining the Highlights of 2021

In a year marked by innovation and growth, Boris FX, a leading developer of integrated VFX and compositing software, has made significant strides in advancing its post-production tools and providing educational content for its users.

Major Releases of Boris FX Products

The year began with the introduction of Particle Illusion 2021, a free standalone application, followed by the first release of the year for Boris FX, Particle Illusion 2021.5, in July. In September, Mocha Pro 2022 was unveiled, marking another milestone in the company's product lineup.

Notably, the fall releases of Sapphire, Continuum, and Mocha Pro were the fastest versions yet. These updates included the addition of Adobe Multi-Frame Rendering and native Apple M1 support, further enhancing the performance and compatibility of Boris FX's software.

Continuum, Boris FX's award-winning visual effects toolkit, saw significant updates in July with the introduction of Continuum FCP. Continuum 2021.5, released in June, brought AI-powered tools for effects to the table, signifying the company's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology in its products.

Training Series and Tutorials

Boris FX also focused on user education in 2021, releasing a series of new training series to help users better utilise its products. These included Mocha Essentials, Complex Wire Removes with Silhouette and Mocha, Getting Started with Particle Illusion, and Feature Film Title Design.

The training series covered core functionalities and popular filters within Boris FX's key tools, such as the Boris FX Optics Photoshop plugin, which was the subject of a tutorial video walking users through its features.

Integration with Other Tools

Early in 2021, Boris FX announced support for Continuum and Sapphire transitions in other software tools, indicating a growing plugin integration and wider ecosystem support.

Partnerships and Anniversaries

Silhouette, an advanced rotoscoping, paint, and compositing toolkit, joined the Netflix Post Technology Alliance as a partner in the visual effects category. This partnership means that Silhouette meets Netflix's technical and delivery specifications for projects like Stranger Things, Bridgerton, Umbrella Academy, and more.

Boris FX also celebrated the 20th anniversary of Mocha's groundbreaking planar technology, which revolutionized advanced VFX tasks.

Ask the Artist Series

To further engage with its user community, Boris FX launched a new blog series titled "Ask the Artist" featuring interviews with editors, VFX artists, and compositors discussing their reliance on Boris FX products.

In conclusion, 2021 was a year of growth and innovation for Boris FX. The company delivered 10 major releases, each featuring new effects, features, workflows, and host applications, and provided educational content to help users make the most of its tools.
