Qualys Launches New Asset Inventory App to Simplify IT Asset Management

Qualys has launched a new Asset Inventory app in beta, aiming to tackle the complexities of maintaining a comprehensive IT asset inventory in the era of digital transformation. The app, Qualys Asset Inventory (AI), promises to address key challenges and provide deep, granular asset details.

Maintaining an accurate IT asset inventory is crucial for a strong security posture. However, it's not an easy task. Challenges include data noise, variations, and the need for manual cleanup. Security teams often find themselves unable to answer basic questions about their IT assets due to inventory blind spots. This is where Qualys AI steps in.

Qualys AI discovers all asset types and collects detailed asset information. It syncs with Configuration Management Databases (CMDBs) to keep asset data up-to-date. The app normalizes and classifies asset data into meaningful categories, extending asset information with non-discoverable metadata. This helps organizations gather relevant information beyond basic asset data, a common struggle in social security management.

There are three key use cases for maintaining a global IT asset inventory. Firstly, it helps identify non-corporate devices, aiding in the enforcement of security policies. Secondly, it simplifies remediation by providing a clear view of assets in need of updates or patches. Lastly, it aids in managing vendor lifecycles, ensuring that organizations are aware of and prepared for end-of-life or end-of-service announcements.

The Center for Internet Security's Top 20 controls highlights the importance of asset inventory and control. With Qualys AI, organizations can gain a better understanding of their IT assets, improve their security posture, and simplify IT asset management. The app's ability to sync with CMDBs and provide deep, granular asset details makes it a valuable tool in the complex landscape of digital transformation.
