The Polish institution, Łódź University of Technology, has triumphed at the esteemed European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation (EUROINVENT) 2024, held in Iasi, Romania. This victory was bestowed upon the university for their groundbreaking project, "Composite Material Based on PLA, Its Manufacturing Method, and Application," patent number PCT/EP2024/052675.
The award-winning project falls under the "Sustainable Industrial Design of Textile Structures for Composite" initiative, funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe program. This achievement underscores the university's dedication to sustainable development.
The project's architects include Dr. Eng. Paulina Byczkowska, Dr. Emil Saryusz-Wolski, Dr. Hab. Eng. Marcin Barburski, Prof. PŁ, from the Łódź University of Technology, as well as Prof. Nawar Kadi and Prof. Mikael Skrifvars from the University of Boras in Sweden.
This innovative venture aims to eradicate textile waste via the integration of natural fibers into PLA. The research team is actively pursuing other natural fibers to optimize the PLA mixture, ultimately creating environmentally-friendly products with desired properties. As explained by Prof. Barburski, "These materials can be used for printing assorted items, such as spare parts, packaging, and other products that require durability and eco-friendliness."
The 2024 edition of EUROINVENT boasted an impressive 600 inventions and projects from 34 countries, reaffirming the global reach and impact of creative and innovative endeavors.
