If mastering the art of parrying like Malenia seems achievable just by thinking it, perhaps someday I could attain such skill.

Overcoming Elden Ring Nightreign's formidable bosses via 'mind control,' Twitch personality PerriKaryal might direct her intellectual prowess towards Nintendo in the future.

Updated Article:

Hey there! Let's chat about PerriKaryal, the brainy tech creator on Twitch who's giving Elden Ring bosses a run for their money using her noggin. With a Master's in psychology, she isn't shy about channeling her smarts into mind-blowing tech. Case in point: her unique EEG-powered control scheme that lets her play games hands-free.

We recently caught up with PerriKaryal about her mind-bending control over Elden Ring's Nightreign, but I neglected to mention one tiny detail in my previous feature—she demonstrated the demo on a PlayStation 5, a console that isn't typically compatible with her setup[1]. But PerriKaryal isn't one to let that stop her; she's figured out a workaround to make the mind control work on any console, including Nintendo and mobile devices[2].

As for the Switch 2, we didn't ask about that specifically, but with PerriKaryal's innovative spirit, who knows? Maybe we'll see a mind-controlled Splatoon run in the near future. Could be interesting, huh?

Navigating the challenges of latency, PerriKaryal needed about seven hours to defeat the Divine Beast Dancing Lion boss in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, while Malenia in the base game took her significantly longer (to the tune of 14 hours). After confessing that the rot goddess wore her down hard, PerriKaryal jokes, "I think there might be something wrong with me, honestly."

Curious about what keeps her coming back for more after failed attempt upon failed attempt, I had to ask. She admits that extended use of the EEG can get a bit uncomfortable and that juggling abstract mental commands was once draining. But after plenty of practice, she finds even Soulslike games becoming strangely meditative.

"It's the reward of mastery," PerriKaryal explains. "You know that you can do it, and you kind of have to. And I think, as a person, I'm quite like that anyway—if I say I'm going to do something, I'm going to do it. If it's within my wheelhouse, I can't not."

That's quite the mindset, and it might be just what I need to tackle Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice again. After all, if PerriKaryal can parry with nothing but a brainwave, surely I can learn to do the same, right?
