OpenAI Valuation Soars to $500 Billion, Topping Unlisted Companies
OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has seen its valuation soar to $500 billion (around 426 billion euros), reclaiming the top spot among the most valuable unlisted companies. This surge follows a funding round that doubled the company's valuation from April. SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, is now the second most valuable unlisted company at around $350 billion.
The funding round was bolstered by secondary sales of OpenAI's stock shares. Nvidia, which previously invested around $6.6 billion in a financing round, announced an additional strategic partnership involving a $100 billion investment for AI infrastructure. Other investors involved in these secondary sales have not been clearly detailed.
OpenAI offers a range of AI tools, including automated image and video creation, in addition to its popular ChatGPT. Despite operating in a fiercely competitive market with large tech companies and many startups, OpenAI's valuation has skyrocketed, surpassing even Microsoft's investment in the company.
