Online transition for spy-themed magazine Gnosis, previously only available in print.
The Italian security magazine "Gnosis," long edited by intelligence services for three decades, has made a significant innovation by becoming available to the public. This move marks a radical change in the concept of national security, extending to strategic, economic, and financial interests.
The new availability of "Gnosis" online allows browsing over 300 pages of content, making it accessible to everyone. The magazine's launch on the web was presented by Prefect Vittorio Rizzi, the director of the DIS (Department of Information and Security).
Rizzi describes "Gnosis" as a place where democracy and freedom are built through the sharing of a method and vision. It is a laboratory of ideas and a meeting point for various perspectives to converge. The magazine aims to facilitate a structured dialogue with experts distant from the world of police and military forces.
"Gnosis" was born shortly after the 9/11 attack, created to address unprecedented threats not attributable to hostile states but to individuals within communities. The idea to publish the magazine on the website sicurezzanazionale.gov.it was pursued by the Italian security system authorities, with involvement in strengthening public security, international cooperation, and specialized monitoring of radicalization and extremism.
The new issue of "Gnosis" covers various topics such as the relationship between Islam and democracy, surveillance in digital society, and economic security in the face of advancing artificial intelligence. Rizzi asserts that one truth remains immutable: Intelligence is the art of seeing beyond the horizon.
The challenge of our time, according to the magazine, is guaranteeing security in the knowledge domain, where it is increasingly difficult to distinguish the true from the plausible and the false. Rizzi notes that today, billions of data cross the planet in a matter of seconds, artificial intelligences shape new realities, and national security is played out on fronts that were unimaginable even in the boldest imaginings.
"Gnosis" is described as a platform for academics, operators, political decision-makers, and citizens to engage. Rizzi explains that "Gnosis" is the first true experiment in open intelligence, where secrets are not revealed, but a method and vision are shared.
Yesterday, Rizzi unveiled the new look of the magazine, marking a new chapter in its history. The magazine's awareness of China's economic growth and entering the WTO in 2001 underscores its commitment to staying abreast of global developments. With "Gnosis," the Italian security system is opening up a dialogue on national security like never before, inviting the public to participate in shaping the future of this critical aspect of our society.
