Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang asserts groundbreaking innovation for their latest Intel collaboration, claiming, "Nothing like this has ever been constructed before."
In a significant move for the tech industry, Nvidia and Intel have announced a new collaboration that aims to revolutionise the data center and PC markets. The partnership, which has been in the works for approximately a year, has been kept under wraps until now.
According to Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO, the upcoming products will be nothing short of revolutionary. The collaboration will result in the creation of new products, including Nvidia-custom x86 CPUs for data center usage and system-on-chips (SOCs) with integrated Nvidia RTX GPU chiplets for the consumer market.
The SOC-based consumer chips will be a fusion of Nvidia's TSMC-based GPU tech and Intel's mostly TSMC-based tech. This fusion will be made possible through Intel's Foveros multi technology packaging capability.
Despite the excitement surrounding the collaboration, both CEOs have remained tight-lipped about the specifics. They have refused to discuss the process the chips would be built on or whether Nvidia would commit to using Intel's foundry in the near future.
Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, however, did confirm that they continue to drive success on the process side, and are making progress in relation to the Nvidia foundry. He also stated that they continue to work with TSMC, implying that they have not yet decided to use Intel as a foundry partner for Nvidia's advanced AI chips.
The collaboration between these tech giants is a historic cooperation, as evidenced by Nvidia's planned $5 billion investment in Intel. This strategic partnership was announced around 2023 and was detailed in news articles on IT Boltwise and Handelsblatt.
For Intel, the collaboration is about more than just technological advancement. They aim to win customer's confidence and trust, and to create products that are first of its kind for the x86 market. The company is also aiming to qualify on 18A and 14A process yields.
Jensen Huang and Intel CEO will review the yield performance of the products, and the collaboration aims to innovate quickly and deliver complex systems as a multi-chiplet systems package. The collaboration will progress one step at a time, with the ultimate goal of creating products that will set new standards in the tech industry.
This collaboration between Nvidia and Intel is set to redefine the tech landscape, and it will be interesting to see how these two giants work together to create groundbreaking products. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting partnership.
