Nokia, fibertime Team Up to Expand Fiber Broadband to 2M South African Homes by 2028

Nokia and fibertime have strengthened their partnership to expand fiber broadband access across South Africa. The agreement, building on a previous announcement, aims to connect more homes to high-speed internet. Nokia's solutions will be deployed in multiple cities, with fibertime targeting 2 million homes by 2028.

Fibertime will use Nokia's Altiplano and Network Services Platform solutions, along with the Altiplano Fiber Health Analyzer, to maintain network reliability. This will enable fibertime to provide unlimited high-speed internet to users, with speeds up to 950Mbps, at an affordable rate of R5 per day, without contracts or debit orders.

The collaboration will also see the deployment of Nokia's 7750 Wireless Access Gateway, creating a single SSID network for seamless connectivity across townships. Additionally, Nokia's ONT Easy Start will automate and simplify the fiber modem activation process, streamlining deployments. fibertime is currently connecting 1,200 households daily to its flexible, high-speed, fiber internet service.

To reach its goal of connecting 2 million homes by 2028, fibertime will deploy Nokia's Lightspan access nodes and Wi-Fi 6 enabled fiber access points. This expansion includes an additional 400,000 homes in underserved communities, adding to the existing cities of Cape Town, Johannesburg, Gqeberha, Mangaung, and Stellenbosch.

Through this collaboration, Nokia's solutions will enhance fibertime's network reliability and simplify its deployment process. fibertime continues its mission to connect underserved communities to high-speed, affordable internet, aiming to reach 2 million homes by 2028.
