NHTSA Closes Engine Failure Probe; Nissan Recalls Over 450,000 Vehicles
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has concluded a preliminary evaluation into engine failure issues affecting over 450,000 Nissan vehicles. The investigation, opened in December 2023, found that engine problems could cause loss of motive power and engine knocking noises.
The probe identified 1,878 incidents, with 12 resulting in crashes or fires. Nissan issued a recall in June to address these engine failure problems in certain vehicles. The recall comes after the NHTSA's review, which found that engine failure could potentially lead to a fire if internal components damage the engine block, allowing engine oil to reach hot surfaces. Despite the recall, specific information about Nissan models produced between January 2015 and December 2023 affected by the NHTSA review was not found in the provided search results.
The NHTSA has closed its preliminary evaluation, and Nissan has taken action with a recall to address engine failure issues in affected vehicles. Owners of potentially impacted Nissan vehicles are advised to check for recall notices and follow recommended safety precautions.
