Newly unveiled: Economical humanoid robot by igus

Igus, the motion plastics specialist, has unveiled Iggy Rob, a groundbreaking humanoid robot designed for industrial production and transport tasks. At a market-disruptive price of approximately $54,500, Iggy Rob offers a cost-effective solution for companies seeking to integrate advanced robotics into their operations.

Key developments leading to the release of Iggy Rob include the igus ReBeL Cobot, the igus ReBeL Hand, and the igus ReBeL Move. These innovations have culminated in a robot that boasts impressive capabilities.

Iggy Rob is equipped with two ReBeL cobot arms and bionic hands, providing dexterous manipulation for a wide range of tasks. Advanced object detection and navigation are made possible through LiDAR sensors and 3D cameras. Unlike traditional legged humanoids, Iggy Rob moves on a ReBeL Move autonomous mobile robot (AMR) platform, ensuring robust stability with a three-point bearing system.

The robot can operate autonomously for up to eight hours on a single charge, making it an efficient choice for long shifts. It supports a payload of 100 kilograms (220 pounds) and an overall load capacity of 50 kilograms (110 pounds), making it suitable for various industrial applications.

Iggy Rob runs on igus Robot Control software (iRC), which is CE-certified and approved for fleet management under VDE 5050 standards. For seamless integration with modern robotics infrastructures, iRC is compatible with ROS2.

Potential use cases for Iggy Rob include reception and service tasks, internal transport within facilities, canteen operations like clearing cutlery, and even component placement in injection molding machines.

To accelerate adoption of its products and ensure their suitability for diverse environments, igus offers a "test before you invest" program. Companies can trial Iggy Rob on-site with expert support to assess its fit for specific environments before purchase.

Compared to most humanoid robots, which often cost two to three times more, Iggy Rob presents an affordable and innovative solution for businesses seeking to incorporate advanced robotics into their operations. Standing approximately 1.70 meters (67 inches) tall, Iggy Rob is poised to make a significant impact in the world of industrial robotics.
