Montra Electric Unveils 55-Ton EV Truck, Opens Women-Monitored Battery-Swap Plant
Montra Electric has made waves in the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market with two significant announcements. The company has launched the Rhino 5538 EV 4×2 TT, a 55-ton electric prime mover, and inaugurated India's first all-women-monitored automated battery swap plant.
The Rhino 5538 EV is a powerful truck, equipped with a 282 kWh LFP battery that delivers 380 HP and 2,000 Nm of torque. It offers a range of nearly 198 km under standard test conditions, making it suitable for long-haul segments. Operators can choose between a fixed-battery pack or a rapid battery swap option, completed in under six minutes, thanks to Montra Electric's innovative battery swap technology.
The battery swap plant, monitored by an all-women team, addresses charging-time and total-cost-of-ownership hurdles. This technology could significantly reduce particulate and nitrous-oxide pollution by 40 per cent by 2050 and avoid 838 billion litres of diesel consumption. Montra Electric's unique battery swap infrastructure and all-women-monitored plant set it apart in the competitive landscape.
The truck was officially unveiled at Mahindra Truck and Bus Division's Manesar production facility in August 2023. The company has also integrated Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) into its eM&HCV assembly line, demonstrating its commitment to technological advancements.
The Rhino 5538 EV is priced at ₹1.15 crore (ex-factory) and comes with a ten-year/900,000 km AMC contract and a 95 per cent uptime guarantee. Montra Electric's latest offerings not only cater to the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions but also promote gender diversity in the industry.
