Momenta's Autonomous Chip Challenges NVIDIA as Uber Robotaxis Hit Munich
Chinese tech startup Momenta, backed by automotive giants like General Motors and Mercedes-Benz, is making waves in the advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) sector. The company is set to provide its cutting-edge technology to overseas models of Chinese automaker SAIC, destined for markets like the UK, Germany, and Australia.
Momenta's growth is fueled by its in-house developments. In 2023, the company began creating its own custom silicon for ADAS, hiring key members from Oppo's chip unit. The team, whose identities remain undisclosed, is now testing the first fruits of their labour - a chip designed specifically for autonomous driving. This chip aims to rival established competitors such as NVIDIA's DRIVE Orin-X processors.
Momenta's expansion doesn't stop at technology. The company is also expanding its global footprint. In collaboration with Uber, Momenta is bringing autonomous test vehicles for passenger transport to Munich. Furthermore, the duo is set to launch robotaxi services in the city, marking a significant step in Momenta's overseas journey.
Backed by major auto names and with a strong focus on in-house innovation, Momenta is poised to make a significant impact in the ADAS market. Its upcoming chip and overseas expansion, particularly the Munich robotaxi services with Uber, signal a company ready to challenge established players and reshape the future of driving.
