Modified VW Golf Seized in Germany Over Safety Risks
Police in Birkenfeld, Germany, seized a modified VW Golf on September 30, 2025, due to safety concerns. The car's air suspension system (Airride) posed risks at its lowest setting, where wheels touched the wheel arches, potentially causing accidents. During enhanced traffic controls, officers noticed issues with the Golf's air suspension system. Despite being listed on the registration certificate, the system failed to meet safety requirements at the lowest setting (0.0 bar). At this level, the wheels were in contact with the wheel arches, making the vehicle unsafe to drive in case of system failure. The driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, faces penalties. A fine and at least one point on their license are expected, with the modification likely being the larger cost factor. Authorities suspect the suspension travel limiter has been removed or manipulated, or no longer functions properly due to wear or damage, which is illegal. Police advise having vehicle modifications done by professionals and adhering to legal requirements to ensure safety and avoid costly penalties. The seized Golf will undergo further inspection to determine the extent of the modifications and their impact on the vehicle's safety.
