Meesho Opens Up AI Infrastructure: BharatMLStack Goes Open Source
Meesho, a leading Indian e-commerce platform, has begun open-sourcing key components of its internal machine learning platform, BharatMLStack. This move aims to democratize access to advanced AI infrastructure and support India's AI and data science community.
BharatMLStack, developed over the past two to three years, is designed to handle uniquely Indian internet behaviours. It can manage transliterated search queries, function on low-resource devices, and facilitate fuzzy product discovery. Meesho's AI leadership confirmed its robustness, having successfully handled high-traffic conditions during its March 2025 Mega Blockbuster Sale.
The open-source release begins with the Online Feature Store, a tool that serves precomputed features to AI models in real time. Over the coming months, additional components such as model serving infrastructure and model registration systems will follow. These include a production-grade feature store, control plane, orchestration UI, and SDKs. Meesho is the first major Indian e-commerce player to contribute at this scale to the country's growing AI ecosystem.
In fiscal year 2025, BharatMLStack processed an average of 1.91 petabytes of data per day, executed 66.9 trillion feature retrievals, and enabled 3.12 trillion real-time inferences during peak loads. Meesho aims to equip India's AI and data science community with scalable and financially sustainable tools through this open-source release, fostering innovation and growth in the country's AI landscape.
