LCV Drivers Want Digital Tools for Safety and Efficiency, Survey Finds
A recent survey has shed light on the digital divide among Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) drivers and fleet managers in Europe. While drivers prioritise safety and efficiency, many lack access to digital technologies that could enhance these aspects.
LCV drivers' top concerns include road safety, traffic congestion, and road infrastructure. However, only 30% currently use real-time arrival time estimation systems, despite 69% expressing a desire to do so. In terms of safety, 51% of Italian drivers and 48% of German drivers rank it as their top priority. Yet, only 33% utilise any of the ten listed digital safety solutions. The penetration of telematics in the LCV segment stands at 27.8%, compared to 36% in medium and heavy trucks. Even in-cab AI-powered cameras, with an 80% approval rate, are used by only 22% of LCV drivers. Traffic congestion poses a significant challenge, with 68% of drivers finding it difficult or extremely so, particularly in Italy (80%) and France (77%).
The survey underscores the need for LCV fleet managers to empower drivers with digital technologies to improve safety and efficiency. Despite drivers wanting these advancements, only a third currently use available solutions. This gap highlights an opportunity for fleet managers to address these concerns and enhance driver satisfaction, with 'doing my work well' being the most important factor for 48% of drivers.
