Larian's Douse: AI Can't Replace Human Game Direction, xAI Hires AI Tutor for Game Dev
Larian Studios' Michael Douse contends that human input is indispensable for compelling game direction, as AI can't fully replicate it. Meanwhile, Elon Musk's AI venture, xAI, is hiring an AI tutor to teach its AI, Grok, game development, aiming to release an AI-generated game by the end of next year.
xAI is offering 45 to 100 dollars per hour for the AI tutor role, which involves feeding Grok with expert knowledge to create a complete video game. This comes as Steam, following past controversies, has implemented rules requiring developers to disclose their AI usage before purchase. The task for Grok is monumental, as it will have to undertake the work of hundreds, if not thousands, of employees typically involved in creating a blockbuster video game.
xAI's ambitious project to create an AI-generated game by the end of next year is set to test the limits of AI capabilities in game development. The success of this venture will depend on the AI tutor's ability to effectively teach Grok and the AI's capacity to mimic human creativity and innovation.
