Investigative figure in the world of cryptocurrency, known as ZachXBT.
In the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrency and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), one anonymous figure has emerged as a relentless watchdog, exposing questionable practices and potential scams. Known as ZachXBT, this cryptocurrency blockchain investigator has made a name for themselves by uncovering controversies in the industry.
ZachXBT first joined Twitter in 2015, but their pro-bono Web3 detective career started in May 2021. Since then, they have been instrumental in unmasking several high-profile individuals and entities, including cryptocurrency influencers, Venture Capitals (VCs), and NFT project creators.
One of the most notable cases involved BitBoy Crypto, a well-known crypto influencer who was accused of promoting NFT project scams for several years. ZachXBT's research revealed that BitBoy received between $2,500 - $40,000 per ad for these promotions. In total, ZachXBT found evidence of seven NFT projects or token scams that ran away with the profits, all promoted by BitBoy.
Another high-profile figure targeted by ZachXBT is Logan Paul, the YouTube star who ventured into the NFT space. ZachXBT exposed Logan Paul for promoting "pump and dump" NFT projects and revealed how he used various addresses to redirect funds to or from his public address.
ZachXBT has also shed light on several NFT projects, such as Pixelmon, Rogue Society, and SolChicks, for various alleged misconducts. For instance, Pixelmon, a 2022 NFT project, was advertised as a high-utility NFT collection tied to a game, but the final product fell short of expectations, generating mixed reactions.
Meanwhile, SolChicks, a web3 PvP game, was accused of using fake bots, fake reviews, and other malicious strategies. The robot-themed NFT collection Rogue Society, which raised $5.5 million, also made headlines when the anonymous founder vanished with the money and the incomplete roadmap.
In addition to exposing these individuals and projects, ZachXBT has also called out several other influencers and VCs, including MoonRock Capital, DarkPool Ventures, BlueZilla, Tai Lopez, and Machi Big Brother.
Tai Lopez, a well-known internet personality, was accused of hosting several fake giveaways in the past and allegedly offering basic information about crypto and NFTs in his pricey courses. In March 2022, ZachXBT exposed Tai Lopez for scamming users with his NFT collection "OG (Original Garage) Social Club."
Laurent Correia, a French reality TV star, was another target of ZachXBT's investigation. Correia was accused of scamming users with his project, Billionaire Dogs Club. Correia used funds from Billionaire Dogs Club to buy CloneX, Doodles, and MAYC NFTs.
ZachXBT's relentless pursuit of truth has not come without its challenges. In 2022, Machi Big Brother, a Taiwan-based entrepreneur and Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT whale, filed a lawsuit against ZachXBT for their accusations.
Despite the legal battles, ZachXBT has received support from the community. Some of the donors for ZachXBT's legal costs include Coinbase, Uniswap, Binance, Bybit, and OKX. In recognition of ZachXBT's work, Beeple, a renowned digital artist, launched an artwork to honour ZachXBT's journey in the NFT space in 2022.
As the crypto and NFT landscape continues to evolve, ZachXBT remains a beacon of transparency and accountability, committed to shining a light on questionable practices and potential scams.
