Wuling Mini EV Game-boy Edition Hits Markets Worldwide
There's been a buzz surrounding the Wuling Mini EV, and its latest edition, the Game-boy edition, is making waves. This compact electric microcar, with its retro theme, has already hit the markets in China and some other countries, including the Philippines, as early as 2022.
The Game-boy edition boasts a 16.2 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a range of approximately 205 km (CLTC standard). It's powered by a 30 kW (about 40 hp) motor, capable of reaching a top speed of 100 km/h, and accelerating from 0-50 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
The 5-door hatchback offers seating for 4 and supports fast charging, although it does not support battery swapping. Energy consumption for the Game-boy edition is 8.9 kWh/100 km. As of mid-2025, the price in the Philippines was around ₱893,000.
The Game-boy edition shares the 30 kW motor and extended wheelbase (201 cm) with certain other variants, providing more rear space and featuring distinct sheet metal compared to the base Mini EV. This edition has been soft-launched and test-driven in various markets, including the Philippines, in mid-2025.
Wuling's Mini EV has been a hit since its introduction, outperforming every electric vehicle on the Chinese market. In fact, the company reported selling 1800 units per day, and over 113,000 charge points have been built in 260 cities.
The success of the Mini EV has not gone unnoticed. Other companies like QQ Ice Cream, Sokon Candy, and Poco Meimei are attempting to replicate Wuling's formula. Meanwhile, Wuling is expanding its micro-car product line, developing a smaller Nano EV and a larger Mini EV Game-boy edition.
Interestingly, the MG4 EV, a different model, has officially revealed its interior with an Oppo smart cockpit and revised cabin design. The MG4 EV is set to debut in China with a power output of 163hp and a range of 537km. The company responsible for the MG4 EV is SAIC.
While the Wuling Mini EV Game-boy edition is already commercially available, Wuling has plans to sell its EVs globally, potentially through General Motors. There's also anticipation for a version of Wuling's EV that meets global safety regulations.
Internal research by Wuling shows that over 95% of daily commutes in China are under 20km, making these nimble EVs ideal. Many people are waiting for the global version of Wuling's EV to put down a deposit, indicating a strong demand for this innovative electric vehicle.
The Wuling Mini EV Game-boy edition, with its retro theme and impressive range, is a testament to the intersection of lifestyle and technology, showcasing the potential of electric-vehicles in everyday commuting. As more companies venture into micro-car production, the electric-car market could witness a transformation, potentially influenced by Wuling's success.
