In the world of museum exhibits, immersive and interactive technologies have become essential infrastructure for storytelling. One company at the forefront of this revolution is Pufferfish Displays, a pioneer in the creation of innovative display solutions.

Stephen Patterson, the visionary leader at Pufferfish Displays, has been shaping the company since May 2025. His responsibilities encompass setting the vision, securing resources, nurturing culture, and keeping investors, partners, and the board aligned, among other duties. Before joining Pufferfish Displays, Patterson spent more than 14 years at Biamp EMEA. His decision to leave was driven by a desire to be more present at home and to channel everything he'd learned into building something of his own.

Pufferfish Displays' flagship product, the PufferLED, offers a significant leap from traditional multi-projector approaches. By swapping these for modular LED tiles, PufferLED delivers at least 10 times the luminance of projection. The energy efficiency of these displays is another key selling point, with a 900mm PufferSphere drawing less power than a 3x3 LCD wall while delivering twice the impact.

The PufferLED line, introduced late last year, features displays in spherical shapes, with a constant pixel pitch ensuring resolution remains as diameter grows, something projection can't match. These spheres ship largely pre-assembled, reducing freight, rigging, and total cost of ownership. In addition to the PufferSphere, Pufferfish Displays offers a half-sphere option, the PufferHemi.

Spherical displays resonate with people because they align with how we understand the world and allow for a 360-degree interactive experience. This immersive quality is enhanced by Pufferfish Displays' ecosystem, which includes PufferOS, PufferBuild, and PufferStudio. PufferOS powers the displays, while PufferBuild is used for content creation and management, and PufferStudio functions as a full graphics, motion graphics, and data visualization house that can help bring customer stories to life for any display canvas.

PufferLED is non-touch, but it runs the same PufferOS engine, allowing for the addition of interactivity via companion touchscreens. The company is also looking to incorporate proximity sensors to reduce idle consumption further.

Before leading Pufferfish Displays, Patterson was the head of Inagin. Now, he is using his extensive experience to guide the company in developing new display shapes beyond the sphere, using the PufferOS engine and custom enclosures to bring clients' ideas to life.

The balance of Pufferfish Displays' projects is almost evenly split between temporary activations and permanent projects, ensuring that their innovative technology is accessible to a wide range of clients and applications. With Stephen Patterson at the helm, Pufferfish Displays continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in immersive and interactive storytelling.
