Huawei's DriveONE 7-in-1 ePowertrain Unveiled for Aito M8 EV

Huawei has unveiled its DriveONE 7-in-1 high-voltage ePowertrain for the Aito M8 EV, a groundbreaking electric vehicle (EV) that promises to revolutionise electric propulsion technology.

The DriveONE system is a highly integrated electric drive system that combines seven key components into a single compact unit, saving approximately 30% of the space normally taken by these components. This design allows for more interior legroom and larger trunk space, enhancing the overall driving experience[1][2].

In terms of performance, the DriveONE system achieves a CLTC efficiency rating of 92.2%, meaning it converts over 92% of the battery's energy into drive power with minimal losses as heat, effectively extending driving range per charge[1][2].

A major innovation is its dual-channel redundant power supply, providing two independent power paths (A and B) that ensure millisecond-level fault isolation. This redundancy supports critical systems involved in advanced assisted driving and autonomous features by maintaining power even if one power supply fails, enhancing safety and reliability for higher levels of autonomous driving[1][2].

Additional technical highlights include:

  • Use of multi-round AI optimization algorithms to optimize motor parameters, reducing noise and enhancing sound quality (NVH performance)[2].
  • Components such as 0.2mm ultra-thin silicon steel sheets, self-developed silicon carbide modules, and magnetic steel bonding technologies contribute to improved efficiency, thermal management, and overall performance of the drive unit[2].

The Aito M8 EV, which maintains the "Kunpeng" design language but features a newly styled front bumper intake grille, will be among the first vehicles to feature Huawei Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS 4, providing intelligent driving assistance and intelligent parking assistance[3].

The new EV is scheduled to officially launch in August, with early bird incentives including a 5,000 yuan (700 USD) deposit that converts to a 10,000 yuan (1400 USD) discount on the final purchase price, and a limited-time free upgrade to the new Night Violet exterior valued at 8,000 yuan (1,120 USD)[4].

The M8 EV offers a new Night Violet exterior colour and a Truffle Brown interior option, and comes with new 21-inch blacked-out wheels fitted with Pirelli tires, with multi-spoke wheel options available[5]. The M8 EV's dimensions are consistent with the EREV model, with a length of 5,190 mm, width of 1,999 mm, height of 1,795 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,105 mm, offering both 5-seat and 6-seat configurations[6].

Richard Yu, Huawei's Executive Director and CEO of Terminal BG, announced that the Aito M8 EV will be the first to feature Huawei's self-developed DriveONE high-voltage 7-in-1 electric drive[7].

The DriveONE 7-in-1 electric drive system, designed by Huawei and embedded in the Aito M8 EV, not only improves the vehicle's efficiency with a CLTC efficiency rating of 92.2%, but also integrates seven key components, saving approximately 30% of the space, allowing for more interior legroom and larger trunk space. Furthermore, this electric vehicle (EV) showcases advanced technology with features like a dual-channel redundant power supply, self-developed silicon carbide modules, and magnetic steel bonding technologies that contribute to improved efficiency and thermal management. Armed with these innovations, the Aito M8 EV promises to revolutionize the EV market with its blend of lifestyle, technology, and electric-vehicle capabilities.
