Illegal VW Golf Modification Leads to Seizure, Driver Fined

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, police in Birkenfeld, Germany, conducted reinforced traffic checks, leading to the seizure of a modified VW Golf due to severe safety issues. The driver, whose name remains unknown, faces penalties and potential vehicle conversion costs.

The Golf, equipped with an air suspension system (Airride), was found to have its wheels in contact with the wheel arch at 0.0 bar pressure. This made the car undrivable in case of system failure, posing a significant safety risk. Police suspect that the suspension travel limiter may have been removed or tampered with, or is damaged.

During the traffic control, the Golf's safety requirements were checked, revealing a substantial deficiency. The car was subsequently seized and sent to an inspection center, where the police's findings were confirmed. The driver is set to receive a fine and at least one point in Flenberg, with the conversion cost likely being the larger expense. Police advise having such conversions done by professional companies and adhering to legal regulations for road safety, as such manipulations on air suspensions are illegal and invalidate the vehicle's operating permit.

The modified VW Golf was seized due to severe safety issues, with the driver facing penalties and potential conversion costs. Police warn against illegal modifications to air suspensions and emphasize the importance of adhering to legal regulations for road safety.
