Hyundai Starts Production at Talegaon Plant, Boosting Indian Capacity
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has initiated passenger vehicle production at its Talegaon manufacturing facility in Maharashtra, following an acquisition from General Motors in January 2024. The plant, which includes land, buildings, and key production assets, is set to significantly boost Hyundai's Indian capacity.
HMIL's initial investment of ₹6,000 crore in 2023-24 upgraded the Talegaon plant to Hyundai's global manufacturing standards. This was followed by an enhanced investment of ₹11,000 crore, increasing the annual vehicle capacity to 250,000 units by 2028. The plant now boasts a seventh-generation paint shop and high-level automation systems.
The first model to roll off the production line will be the new-generation Venue SUV, catering to both Indian and export demand. Production is expected to start in the third quarter of FY26. Once fully ramped up, Hyundai's total Indian capacity will reach approximately 1.074 million units per annum by 2028. Engine production at the Talegaon plant commenced on 16 June 2025, with an annual installed capacity of 130,000 vehicles and 160,000 engines.
The Talegaon plant's expansion and commencement of production mark a significant milestone for Hyundai in India. With the new Venue SUV leading the way, the plant is poised to contribute substantially to Hyundai's Indian and export operations, further solidifying the company's position in the global automotive market.
