Hyundai Invests $5.54B in Georgia Tech, Building EV Plant and Creating 8,100 Jobs
Hyundai Motor Group has announced a significant investment in Georgia Tech, establishing a $120,000 STEM scholarship and forming a multi-decade partnership for research and applications in sustainable mobility. The partnership, valued at $5.54 billion, will create over 8,100 jobs with the construction of Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America, an electric vehicle and battery plant in Bryan County, Georgia.
Hyundai's José Muñoz praised Georgia Tech's reputation and the potential for student development opportunities, leading to the establishment of the scholarship. The partnership will also enhance Georgia Tech Athletics, with Bobby Dodd Stadium now named Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field. Georgia Tech Athletics Director J Batt commended Hyundai's interest and the potential for a long-lasting partnership, which includes sponsorship elements to improve fan experience.
The partnership will provide Georgia Tech with a pathway to expand its research in electric vehicle and hydrogen technology. New revenue will support Georgia Tech Athletics and benefit student-athletes. Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera expressed gratitude for Hyundai's investments and alignment of values.
